Mental Health Skill-Building Services
EPIC Health Partners provides training and support to enable individuals over the age of 21 with psychiatric functional limitations to achieve and maintain community stability and independence in the most appropriate, least restrictive environment.
These individuals are those who have a history of emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric disorders resulting in significant functional impairments in major life activities. They also experience severe and persistent symptoms of mental illness causing further symptoms and impairments, which result in producing distress and disabilities in their normal day-to-day functioning.
Our mental health skill-building program includes direct services and care coordination that focuses on improving the individual’s independent assisted daily living skills, such as communicating with physicians and other caregivers and performing daily activities like shopping and paying bills.
These services, which are paid by Virginia Medicaid and provided in the home, office, and community, are available seven days a week. Sessions are limited to 15 hours per week with each session not to exceed three hours per day per individual unless clinically necessary. Service is provided between the hours of 6 am and 10 pm, although times and units may fluctuate if necessary to meet the needs of the individual.
To qualify for the Mental Health Skill-Building Program, individuals must be:
- Virginia Medicaid eligible;
- Have a mental, behavioral, or emotional illness that results in functional impairments in major life activities;
- Have a history of psychiatric hospitalization; residential/community crisis stabilization; Intensive Community Treatment (ICT); Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT); Psychiatric Residential Treatment (RTC Level C); or Temporary Detention Order (TDO) due to decompensation;
- Have a prescription for antipsychotic, mood stabilizing or anti-depressant medication within the past year.
Referral sources for our Mental Health Skill-Building program include managed care organizations, community partners, self-referral, physicians’ offices, family, friends, other behavioral health agencies, EPIC internal programs, and the Office of Children’s’ Services (CSA).
